What's Good (Week of 10/11/26)

Cover of blackchai's album 'Making Sense'. An psychedelic art piece of blackchai smoking a joint, with a city skyline and a galatic skyscape growing from his head.

MediumElmattic

Elmattic covers some of the best records from this year so far with appearances from What's Good faves like Defcee, Open Mike Eagle, Nickelus F, Serengeti, Wiki, and more, all through the lens of aging in rap:

Rap is now more than twice as old as most of its current listeners. And it’s been around long enough to see a lot of rappers retire, fade away, hang it up…only to sometimes come back stronger than ever, one last rage against the dying of the mic. How do they do that? Why do they do that? Why do some resurge and others disappear in a puff of blunt smoke, never to be heard from again? (Immortal Technique, I’m looking in your direction.) How do you live without making art, and how do you keep going when success eludes you? What even is enough to satisfy that craving for ‘success’?
