Before we get into the shenanigans, an update about the charity giveaway I'm hosting.
Charity Giveaway Reminder
Since I've had a fair amount of interest, but few actual entries, I'm going to extend the deadline for my giveaway of a copy of Armand Hammer & The Alchemist's album Mercy out another month. All these causes are still incredibly vital, and I'd rather my extra vinyl copy go to someone who enjoys the blog than trying to sell it somewhere.

Just to remind you of the details, make a charitable donation to any of the following:
- Trans Youth Emergency Project: A project from the Campaign for Southern Equality, offering logistical and financial support to families affected by laws restricting or banning care for transgender children across the United States
- Al Otro Lado: An organization providing legal and humanitarian aid for immigrant communities in the U.S. and Mexico, with litigation services, family reunification, and a number of other programs.
- The Women's Foundation of Minnesota's Immigrant Rapid Response Fund: A fund directing resources to organizations across the Twin Cities metro area and Greater Minnesota that provide basic needs, urgent legal services, and advocacy resources for communities impacted by immigration-related harm.
And fill out this Google form with proof of your donation. I'll close out the form on 3/31/26, then I'll contact a randomly selected one of you for an address to send the record to.
If you're looking for other ways to help in Minnesota specifically, check out the mutual aid and support resources at Stand With Minnesota.
Now for the music.

The villain from Hempstead, Roc Marciano pulled up to Aimé Leon Dore's flagship NYC location for a intimate live set, accompanied by bass, keys, and the legendary Stretch Armstrong behind the decks.

There's also a double dose of Lord Jah-Monte Ogbon this week who released As Of Now, first with an interview with Gary Suarez over at CABBAGES:
A deliberately varied set of songs, As Of Now serves as a reintroduction both to and for Ogbon, presenting his current incarnation to those pandemic day-ones while allowing himself to demonstrate his expanded capabilities to new audiences as well as a certain audience of one. "I just took a lot of risks with this album," he says, citing Ye's Yeezus as direct example and indirect inspiration. "You know what space we're in, as far as this indie underground sound, so I wanted to use this as an opportunity to really take a leap."
During this time, he traveled and relocated on a number of occasions, to Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia, to Florence and Darlington, South Carolina, and to his spiritual second-home in New York City. "I put in a lot of work in Charlotte, like six, seven albums, a hundred shows out here, and I never really felt the love until I went to New York," Ogbon says, citing a Brooklyn show booked by Sidewaalk Kal as particularly impactful. "Starker came through, Brainorchestra came through. A lot of people came through and showed love and let me know like, yo, you got love out here."
Then a chat with the Rap Music Plug Podcast about the record, signing to Lex, his signature rap style, and more.
Jay Som stopped by the KEXP studios back in December for some tracks from last year's Belong.
Backwoodz dropped off some footage of ELUCID & DJ Haram's Out of the Simulation and into the Street tour stop in Philly with footage from both their sets as well as Dania, set to "First Light" from ELUCID's upcoming full length with Sebb Bash.
Alan Chazaro tapped in with Frak to talk all things SF, and his recently released Four Square mixtape for Coyote.
“Four Square captured that battle rap energy. It’s two emcees going back and forth, building off each other, trading ideas. But instead of tearing each other down, we’re building something up,” Frak tells me over the phone, during a nearly hour-long interview in which he leaves his home, takes a stroll in the rain, and eventually ends up at Mulan Malatang, a Chinese noodle shop in SF’s Inner Richmond, where he continues to talk while audibly downing a bowl of soup. “I usually write songs that take months, then I come back to it precisely. But with Four Square, you have to do it all in one- or two-hour sessions. It’s on the spot. You have to be OK with what happens and make collaborative art with whoever is in the room. That makes it different. That makes it live and brings excitement. [In the Bay,] there aren’t enough platforms or ways to unite. That was a part of my reason for making this.”
