Now let's get into.
Bandcamp Friday Deals and Offers
With Bandcamp waving their share for the day, artists and labels take the opportunity to get some sales and special offers off. Here's just a few of them:
- Prefuse 73: "The Kafir Tapes, Sample Packs & All self released material is 40% off from now until Monday with code: marzo40"
- Sankofa: "From now until midnight tomorrow, The discount code ithinkiheardawhoosh will get you 40% off anything I have...."
- Bikini Kill: For one day only, they're offering a sweatshirt to benefit the Trans Continental Pipeline.
- ewonee: Cassette-only release of 8ths Vol.2. No streaming or digital release coming!
- Lapgan: Lapgan's offering vinyl versions of his 2021 beat tape Duniya Kya Hai in black, marbled green, and smoked orange.
- Feral Crone Recordings: Lana Del Rabies new label is offering 15% off everything in the catalog with code FERAL15.
- Full Plate: Originally released as part of the Rawkus 50 back in 2007, The Smile Rays (Paten Locke, Lady Daisey, and Batsauce) Smilin' On You is now available on vinyl.
- GNRLYHD: GNRLYHD's Major Malfunction In The Bay is now available on cassette.
- Kim Gordon: If you preorder Kim's upcoming (next week!) album PLAY ME on Bandcamp Friday you'll get a free poster.
- small professor: Two new instrumental albums released today: i had to be a pianist in the future past and i had to be a pharoahe in the past future.
- Serengeti: Serengeti released a new tape of wedding jamz: "say the dj or band cancels last minute. just play this."
- Fugazi: The band is finally releasing the songs they recorded with Steve Albini that were intended to be released as In on the Kill Taker as the Albini Sessions, with their share of the proceeds going toward the Letters Charity.
That's just a small sample, and everything you cop from Bandcamp today puts more bread in an artists' pocket, sale or no.
Mercy Charity Giveaway Reminder
I'ma keep reminding y'all of this one, 'cause there's plenty of folks in need and you can land a copy of one of my favorite albums by helping out. Super simple, donate to a good cause, and I put you in a drawing to win a vinyl copy of Mercy by Armand Hammer & The Alchemist.

Make a charitable donation to any of the following:
- Trans Youth Emergency Project: A project from the Campaign for Southern Equality, offering logistical and financial support to families affected by laws restricting or banning care for transgender children across the United States
- Al Otro Lado: An organization providing legal and humanitarian aid for immigrant communities in the U.S. and Mexico, with litigation services, family reunification, and a number of other programs.
- The Women's Foundation of Minnesota's Immigrant Rapid Response Fund: A fund directing resources to organizations across the Twin Cities metro area and Greater Minnesota that provide basic needs, urgent legal services, and advocacy resources for communities impacted by immigration-related harm.
And fill out this Google form with proof of your donation. I'll close out the form on 3/31/26, then I'll contact a randomly selected one of you for an address to send the record to.
If you're looking for other ways to help in Minnesota specifically, check out the mutual aid and support resources at Stand With Minnesota.
In light of the Kansas state law that invalidated driver's licenses for transgender citizens, in addition to the Trans Youth Emergency Project up above, some Kansas-specific resources include:
- Trans Continental Pipeline: A Colorado organization that assists with relocation efforts for queer people living in unsafe environments. With Colorado being on Kansas' border, they've undoubtly gotten a lot busier very suddenly.
- Our Spot KC: An LGBTQ+ community organization in Kansas City that operates Lion House, a transitional housing space aimed at fighting LGBTQ+ homelessness.
- The Center of Wichita: Secures resources and educational opportunities for Wichita's LGBTQ+ community, including hosting a central meeting space in downtown Wichita.
Now let's get into this week's music.

De La Soul graced the NPR Tiny Desk, 'nuff said.
Open Mike Eagle pays tribute to Bob Power, who we lost this week. Tap with him for about an hour of remembrances of the legendary engineer, and the music he helped bring to life.

Abe Beame writes about the lost legacy of Hip Hop periodicals and journalism for Defector:
Syreeta Gates, a young archivist from Jamaica, Queens, founded The Gates Preserve, a digital record of Black youth culture media so complete that the photographers and writers of the pieces in her collection from that era often hit her up to ask for clips of their own work. Gates has dedicated her life to the study and collection of this history, because it introduced her to a perspective she found truer to her experiences than what she encountered elsewhere.
“Oftentimes, when we're thinking about American journalism, we're thinking about Joan Didion, Hunter S. Thompson, or Gay Talese, and they’re important. But we also need to think about Mimi Valdés and Bönz Malone and Bobbito Garcia,” Gates told me. “Hip-hop journalism was responsible for talking about American culture in a way that no one else was at the time. In a Source magazine in ’92, you could read about Palestine, you could read about Nelson Mandela being freed, you could read about a new demo tape on the way from a guy named Biggie Smalls. It showed a people's history of alternative culture that you're not getting from the mainstream publications.”
But the giddy freedom of operating outside of mainstream constraints also comes with a downside. “The problem is, if you're from a culture that was not supposed to last from the jump, you're not thinking about archiving it or preserving it,” Gates said.
During a gig at Little Saint on Tuesday, St. Vincent delivered a stripped down cover of Jeff Buckley's "Grace".
Rather than putting it in this week's drops for a single track's video, I decided to give Flying Lotus' new EP Big Mama (out today on Bandcamp and his official store) space in the Bonus Beats so you can see the EP length video from visual artists Rymdreglage.

Dylan Green sat down with Liv.e and Karriem Riggins to talk their fantastic new collaborative effort as GENA with The Pleasure Is Yours:
The platonic ideal is for something like this to be made in close quarters, but making it sound like you did for this debut is impressive. It reminds me of what Phonte and Nicolay did when making the first Foreign Exchange album, or Syd and Matt Martians piecing together the first Internet record.
Riggins: I feel like if I have people looming over me in the studio—it could be my mom up in there—it’s gonna be a different output than when I’m in my solitude. When I’m by myself, it’s a different thing. Not to say that it’s better or worse, but I prefer the solitude, especially for what we came up with. I think we were each in our zones. I would send her an instrumental in the morning, and then the next morning, she’d send me something back.
Liv.e: It was beautiful and crazy. I was finishing shit at, like, 3 or 4 a.. I felt hella disrespectful. It wasn’t no way to schedule texts to send them ahead of time when we were making this, so I was definitely staying up listening and tweaking it a bunch. I’d wait til 4 a.m. because I know with the time difference it was like 7 a.m. for him.
Riggins: I’d wake up geeked and ready to work.
