As well as the LAST WEEKEND OF THE MERCY CHARITY GIVEAWAY, which closes on Tuesday. More on that down below, but first if you haven't signed up to get the blog in your email, you should.

Mercy Charity Giveaway

It's your last chance to possibly score a copy of Mercy by Armand Hammer & The Alchemist while doing some good.

A packaged vinyl record with Backwoodz Studioz packing tape. The 'Ship To' address has been redacted with black bars.
My extra copy of one of my favorite albums of 2025 can be yours.

Make a charitable donation to any of the following:

  • Trans Youth Emergency Project: A project from the Campaign for Southern Equality, offering logistical and financial support to families affected by laws restricting or banning care for transgender children across the United States
  • Al Otro Lado: An organization providing legal and humanitarian aid for immigrant communities in the U.S. and Mexico, with litigation services, family reunification, and a number of other programs.
  • The Women's Foundation of Minnesota's Immigrant Rapid Response Fund: A fund directing resources to organizations across the Twin Cities metro area and Greater Minnesota that provide basic needs, urgent legal services, and advocacy resources for communities impacted by immigration-related harm.

And fill out this Google form with proof of your donation. I'll close out the form on 3/31/26, then I'll contact a randomly selected one of you for an address to send the record to.

If you're looking for other ways to help in Minnesota specifically, check out the mutual aid and support resources at Stand With Minnesota.

In light of the Kansas state law that invalidated driver's licenses for transgender citizens, in addition to the Trans Youth Emergency Project up above, some Kansas-specific resources include:

  • Trans Continental Pipeline: A Colorado organization that assists with relocation efforts for queer people living in unsafe environments. With Colorado being on Kansas' border, they've undoubtly gotten a lot busier very suddenly.
  • Our Spot KC: An LGBTQ+ community organization in Kansas City that operates Lion House, a transitional housing space aimed at fighting LGBTQ+ homelessness.
  • The Center of Wichita: Secures resources and educational opportunities for Wichita's LGBTQ+ community, including hosting a central meeting space in downtown Wichita.

Now let's get on with the music.

Forget the Zombified Punk Festivals. The Future Is for the Dolls
Doll Fest, a fundraiser and celebration of femmes in punk rock, hits Oakland and Albany March 27–29.

This weekend (today!) Doll Fest will be hitting the Bay Area to benefit the Transgender Law Center, and Gordon Edgar has the scoop for COYOTE. Shout to What's Good faves Vial headlining Saturday.

Katie Cash will play the opening party March 27 at the Ivy Room with her supergroup Skip the Needle, whose anthem “Battle Cry (Ay Ay Ay)” may get stuck in your head for a week. “As a queer butch woman and as a woman in a band that identifies as ‘Black Dyke Rock,’ it’s so important to be lifted up within punk spaces and supported by such a diverse group of people,” says Cash. “I think Doll Fest introduces voices that need to be heard.”

Minneapolis three-piece punk band Vial headline Saturday and SoCal-based Bad Cop Bad Cop finish the fest on Sunday; both days’ shows take place at Oakstop. Stacey Dee, BCBC’s vocalist and guitarist, says the band is looking forward to Doll Fest because, “as women, we never get to headline the festivals we play.”

“We are oftentimes the token female band on the bill that makes promoters look and feel like they are being inclusive,” says Dee, noting that she grew up in the Bay and has always appreciated its legacy of femme-fronted bands. “So this feels extra super good to be valued for our life’s work.”

Ahead of touring for My Ghosts Go Ghost, By Storm played a set of joints from the album at Palabra in Phoenix.

Gelli Haha and company brought the Gelliverse to KCRW with joints from Switcheroo ahead of their headlining tour.

aja monet blessed the KEXP studios with a live set of tracks from her upcoming the color of rain (which you can hear the latest single from, featuring Meshell Ndegeocello and Georgia Anne Muldrow, down in the drops for this week).

Symphony of the World :: E L U C I D x Sebb Bash’s ‘I Guess U Had to Be There’
As Breeze says: allow me to elucidate, boost what’s great.

Elmattic went long on ELUCID & Sebb Bash's I Guess U Had To Be There.

Tony Soprano said: Remember when is the lowest form of conversation. But New Yorkers are exempt, because the city is remembering; it is built on a substrate of nostalgia, of ghosts. You walk around with a veil of memories, a scrim of the past, in front of your face: here’s where you kissed T — before she got on the subway, slammed against a shop’s metal security gate, and it rattled like thunder. Here’s where R — tried to kick in the windshield of a parked car. Here’s where you used to buy an Italian roll after school, pulling it apart and eating it in careful, tiny floury morsels. Here’s where that not-so-undercover in a cheap suit said: hey papi, wanna make some money? And you said: uhhhhhh…no thanks.

E L U C I D shares flashes of memory here: 1200 Fulton at the Blue Coronet, circa ’81 Miles Davis, red Ferrari on Fulton. That’s my car, out the school bus window. The smack slump the block, but the crack hit harder.

Every block is a Eusebian apparatus: that used to be a CVS that used to be the fabric store where A — made you be in his movie. That used to be a Mexican restaurant that used to be a Vietnamese restaurant that used to be an Italian restaurant. The Pyramid, Julian’s, Disco Donut, Joe’s Bar, CB’s, all gone. The Blue & Gold Tavern is still there. Russ & Daughters is still there, but there’s always a goddamn line. Some parts of the city are unrecognizable to me, too much new overlaying the old: 14th Street, Houston, Astor Place. The black cube keeps appearing and disappearing, that doesn’t help. Where’s the barber school? What happened to that diner where D — chopped up and snorted a packet of Sweet N Low? (It was the ’80s. No one batted an eye.)

The Garden State Gargoyle, Fatboi Sharif, sat down with POW's The Truth Hurts to talk about his creative process, horror movies, Britney Spears, and more.
