The homey Elmattic came through with his Dope of the Month Club newsletter for March with his picks, including a few recently What's Good featured joints like Black Milk & Fat Ray's Food From The Gods and PremRock's Did You Enjoy Your Time Here?, as well as a couple of new-to-me ones like The Sound Conspirator's Searching for the Waters of Oblivion.
Peep the big sound in “Nothing You Want”—a Blaxploitation theme gone wrong, Shaft In Meteor City, Cotton Comes To Little China. Imagine being trapped in an elevator when the missiles finally fall: “Destiny” is what’s playing, real Miracle Mile hours, we all end up in the tar pit. “This Is Not Real” is a midnight drive-in movie soundtrack playing to cars full of corpses in Lovecraft, GA. “Dakessian” needs to play on 20 foot speakers so the bass makes you need to take a shit.
Yu Sakai touched down at NPR's Tiny desk with the TBN Trio (including Nate Smith) for a sunlight drenched set of Jazz, and J-Pop.

Lex Boogie: Me and John Robinson have mutual respect, mutual friends and are in the same scene in Atlanta. We just fans of each other so through seeing each other and through conversation, we started building. I always wanted to do a song with him because I respect him as an artist, just his unique self. I look at him like a jazz musician, like someone that adds a different element you don’t get from other artists: he makes other artists better. I thought that about him before I even did the song. When Senz did the beat, it reminded me of the intro beat – crazy drums, the arrangement. After I wrote it, I just heard John Robinson on it, I hit him up and he was down. The concept, I wanted something different, to represent who we are now. Not us as kids or rappers. Life is about love. You got to express some love, you know, it’s the shit that makes us wake up in the morning. Whether you realize it or not.
